UCI Gran Fondo 2018 ToC (Tour of Cambridgeshire) June 3rd

Six of the Peddlers go to Peterborough show ground this year for the closed roads event, the UK qualifier for the UCI World final in Italy this year (Varese).

Ev went out of the race gates (age group 55-59), hoping to qualify – he’s put a lot of effort in beforehand and he’s booked accommodation already in Varese just like I did for Albi last year.  The rest of us went out of the sportive gate.

Fabulous weather today, in fact it got a bit too hot and many struggled with dehydration in the last 10-15 miles putting a big effort in and not stopping for water.

After a nervous 24 hours waiting to confirm it (the ToC mobile app was a shambles, it looked like everyone had qualified!), Ev got the big Q against his name with a time of 3h 25m and an average 23 mph!!!!  Not bad for an old git eh?

I met Mike Swoboda before the start, from Russ’s old gym at Benton Hall and now following on Strava – it looks like he only just missed out on qualifying for Italy and also suffered with dehydration in the last 20m.
