Bertie goes to Yorkshire, 1-5 May 2019

We go to watch the Tour of Yorkshire cycling race and spend a few days touring the area around Scarborough. The site we pitched in was a club site at West Ayton, along the route of day 2 of the tour (Forge Valley).
Denise made her longest bike ride into Robin Hood’s Bay …

Old railway line from Scarborough to Whitby including bits of Tour of Yorkshire route near our site (Forge Valley)

Denise made it 20 miles on the cinder track to Robin Hood’s Bay.
The tour comes through here, but doesn’t attempt the 30% into the harbour!
One of the several disused railway stations on the old cinder track
Our awning ripped on the day the tour came through the village, it was wet and windy!
we stop to take in the views
most of the cinder track is like this
We stop here at Ravenscar for a coffee and cake.
We stop here in Robin Hood’s Bay and eat fish and chips on the sea wall
This gull is very interested in our fish and chips

There are even donkeys ready to entertain on the beach, but it’s freezing!
A very interesting motorhome!
We wait on the corner for the tour to come through, first it’s the women
I feel sorry for these girls!
Even the chippy stops to watch the men come through 🙂
The very first showing of the Team Ineos kit
We parked our bikes at the top of this 30% gradient!
